Genya Ravan, geboren als Genya Zelkowitz in 1945 in Polen en later met haar ouders gevlucht naar de Verenigde Staten, is een van de belangrijkste vrouwen in de geschiedenis van de popmuziek. Zij formeerde in de jaren zestig de eerste hard rockende damesgroep Goldie & The Gingerbreads, speelde later in Ten Wheel Drive produceerde de beste platen van punkpioniers de Dead Boys, schreef het autobiografische boek Lollipop Lounge en is een invloedrijke discjockey op Sirius/XM. Nu, op 74-jarige leeftijd komt ze met de zeer geslaagde soloplaat Icon, een toffe muzikale combi van Phil Spector, ballads, sixties punk, Ramones en power pop. Goede eigen nummers en verrassende covers van Humble Pie (Fool For A Pretty Face), Elvis Costello (Pump It Up) en Frankie Miller (When I’m Away From You).
Today, Genya Ravan has come full circle with a brand new album… ‘Icon’. Mirroring her life, accomplishments, and the road she influenced and paved, Icon is filled with blood, sweat and tears, rock n’ roll, the glitter of glam, a punk rock attitude, garage rock spirit, raw energy, anthems, ballads, heart and soul.
