Om te vieren dat Paul Carrack 50 jaar actief is als muzikant, besloot hij een album op te nemen met covers van zijn favoriete jazz-, soul-, gospel- en bluesnummers. Wat Don’t Wait Too Long bijzonder maakt is dat Carrack zich laat begeleiden door de fameuze Duitse SWR Big Band. Maar de slagroom op de taart is natuurlijk weer de nog steeds fantastische stem van Carrack. Hij maakte daarmee groepen als Ace, Squeeze en Mike & The Mechanics al onsterfelijk en het maakte zijn solowerk altijd bovengemiddeld. Het maakt ook van Don’t Wait Too Long, waarop hij helden als Ray Charles, Bobby Bland en Sam Cooke in het zonnetje zet, een prachtplaat van een van de beste blanke soulzangers aller tijden.
To celebrate 50 years of active musicianship, Paul Carrack decided to record an album of covers of his favorite jazz, soul, gospel and blues songs. What makes Don’t Wait Too Long special is that Carrack is accompanied by the famous German SWR Big Band. But the cream on the cake is of course the still fantastic voice of Carrack. He made groups such as Ace, Squeeze and Mike & The Mechanics immortal and it always made his solo work above average. It also makes Don’t Wait Too Long, on which he celebrates heroes like Ray Charles, Bobby Bland and Sam Cooke, a beautiful record from one of the best white soul singers of all time.
